North Carolina’s elite gymnasts have trusted Everest Gymnastics to provide top-notch instruction since 2004. Now in its 15th year, this US National Team Training Center has earned a reputation for churning out recruitable talent, engaging the minds and bodies of recreational and competitive participants alike, and helping each enrollee advance their skills on their own terms.
Everest Gymnastics co-founders Qi Han and Yiwen Chen believe that winning tournaments and earning medals is just the proverbial cherry on top of a bigger purpose. Gymnastics, they assert, is a sport that teaches many life lessons that can be taken from the mat to the real world. Not only does gymnastics improve physical abilities, but it also works to impart a spirit of cooperation in its practitioners.
By immersing students in a family atmosphere, Everest Gymnastics eliminates the worry of judgment often felt by fledging athletes. Instead of pushing competition between students, each Everest Gymnastics instructor encourages these young athletes to work against themselves, and always strive to reach — and go beyond — personal goals. More than athletics, more than form, more than the glitz and glam of the year-end showcase, Everest stresses self-confidence, respect, and integrity.
This “whole child” approach has made Everest Gymnastics a popular choice for families with children of all ages. Preschoolers are given special treatment and are introduced to the sport in a fun and gentle manner, with equipment designed especially for their small bodies and curious minds. As students advance in their abilities, the equipment and training rigors grow along with them. Everest Gymnastics is proud to feature more than 52,000 square feet of training floor space and USAG Certified Equipment.
Two locations, the original studio in Huntersville and the newest addition, a 32,000 square foot studio in Cornelius, feature Olympic-sized spring floors, foam pits, balance beams, bars, and tumble tracks and trampolines. These tools, along with cargo nets, an inflatable bouncy slide, climbing walls, and other facility features ensure Everest Gymnastics always has a new activity to challenge and excite young gymnasts.
A roundup of recreational classes serve to provide fun and develop foundational skills in children wishing to engage in competition. Leveled instruction and personal attention promote safe growth as each athlete develops and refines their skills and works toward their goals. The Elite program at Everest Gymnastics is for advanced students aiming for inclusion in the National Team and beyond. Students in this exclusive and hand-picked program often go on to receive scholarships and international recognition.
Everest Gymnastics is an award-winning training center with a long list of achievements. Coach Han has been recognized for his work with up-and-coming Olympic-level athletes including Emily Schild and Haleigh Bryant. Coach Han and Coach Chen have had the honor of watching athletes grow from a nervous first day on the floor to mastering competitions across the globe.
Everest Gymnastics is a 2015 Region 8 Hall of Fame designee and the 2015 North Carolina Gym of the Year award recipient.
